St Catherine's Church Towersey

We are a friendly and welcoming community meeting at St Catherine's Church, which is situated at the heart of the quiet, picturesque village of Towersey - just a mile from the market town of Thame in Oxfordshire

Our common vision, as part of the Oxford Diocese, is for a more Christ-like Church: contemplative, compassionate and courageous for the sake of God’s world. A church more like Jesus and the Lord we serve.

The focus of our ministry in Towersey is to witness to the love of God and the hope that comes through faith in Jesus Christ.

Do look around this site find our more about us - or better still come and visit us, we would love to meet you.

Current arrangements due to COVID-19 (Updated 28/6/21)

We are delighted to announce that St Catherine’s will resume in-person services in church with a service of Holy Communion on 25th July at 9.30. The service will be led by Rev Rachel Cross.

Sadly, this will be Rachel’s final service in Towersey before she moves on to pastures new in Oxford (see below for more). We hope that many from the village will be able to join us on this occasion.

Church building open on Sundays for private prayer

We open the church for private prayer on Sundays from 9am to 6pm. We have taken steps to make the church building COVID-secure. When visiting the church for prayer please adhere to the guidance displayed in the building.

From 26th July the St Catherine's will be again open for private prayer daily from 9am to 4pm.

Sunday Worship

From August we will be holding monthly services in church at 9.30am on the third Sunday of each month. There will be a balance between services of Morning Worship and Holy Communion through the course of the year. Read on for more details.

On the intervening Sundays the St Catherine’s congregation will worship together with others at St Mary’s in Thame. During August, services will be 10.15am.

Additional morning services are held at St Catherine’s at key times of the year such as Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, Harvest and Remembrance Sunday. Read on to see what's coming up.

Growing in the Christian Life

Rebuilding a City and a Nation - Group Bible studies exploring the book of Nehemiah

Nehemiah was a leader who loved God and his people. He learnt to trust God in the face of internal and external opposition and intimidation. Through his courage and conviction the Jerusalem city walls were rebuilt and God’s chosen nation was restored. His story has much to teach us as we too learn to trust God in the challenges we face today.

For dates and details download this invitation.

We meet online fortnightly from 8pm to 9.15 for Bible study and discussion followed by a short time of reflection and prayer. For details email welcome@towerseychurch.org.uk.

Rev Rachel Cross

We are sorry to announce that Rachel Cross, our vicar, will be moving on from Towersey. She has been appointed to be Associate Minister of St Frideswide Church, in central Oxford. Rachel will continue in her role as Assistant Diocesan Director of Ordinands, helping possible ordinands discern their vocational pathway. We pray for God’s blessing on Rachel’s future ministry along with Simon, her husband, who will be starting a new curacy (in north Oxford), at the beginning of July.

Rachel’s last Sunday in Towersey will be 25th July, when we will have the opportunity to express our thanks to her for her ministry in the village over the past seven years. If you would like to contribute towards a leaving gift for Rachel as a way of expressing your thanks for her ministry in Towersey please use this link to make a payment. Thank you.
